value=\"16422\">§ 16422.</num><heading> Advanced transmission technologies</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idad89f9bd-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Definition of advanced transmission technology</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In this section, the term “advanced transmission technology” means a technology that increases the capacity, efficiency, or reliability of an existing or new transmission facility, including—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9be-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> high-temperature lines (including superconducting cables);</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9bf-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> underground cables;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c0-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> advanced conductor technology (including advanced composite conductors, high-temperature low-sag conductors, and fiber optic temperature sensing conductors);</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c1-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> high-capacity ceramic electric wire, connectors, and insulators;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c2-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/5\"><num value=\"5\">(5)</num><content> optimized transmission line configurations (including multiple phased transmission lines);</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c3-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/6\"><num value=\"6\">(6)</num><content> modular equipment;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c4-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/7\"><num value=\"7\">(7)</num><content> wireless power transmission;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c5-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/8\"><num value=\"8\">(8)</num><content> ultra-high voltage lines;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c6-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/9\"><num value=\"9\">(9)</num><content> high-voltage DC technology;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c7-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/10\"><num value=\"10\">(10)</num><content> flexible AC transmission systems;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c8-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/11\"><num value=\"11\">(11)</num><content> energy storage devices (including pumped hydro, compressed air, superconducting magnetic energy storage, flywheels, and batteries);</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9c9-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/12\"><num value=\"12\">(12)</num><content> controllable load;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9ca-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/13\"><num value=\"13\">(13)</num><content> distributed generation (including PV, fuel cells, and microturbines);</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9cb-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/14\"><num value=\"14\">(14)</num><content> enhanced power device monitoring;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9cc-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/15\"><num value=\"15\">(15)</num><content> direct system state sensors;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9cd-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/16\"><num value=\"16\">(16)</num><content> fiber optic technologies;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9ce-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/17\"><num value=\"17\">(17)</num><content> power electronics and related software (including real time monitoring and analytical software);</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9cf-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/18\"><num value=\"18\">(18)</num><content> mobile transformers and mobile substations; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad89f9d0-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/a/19\"><num value=\"19\">(19)</num><content> any other technologies the Commission considers appropriate.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idad89f9d1-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16422/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Authority</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In carrying out the Federal Power Act (<ref href=\"/us/usc/t16/s791a\">16 U.S.C. 791a</ref> et seq.) and the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (<ref href=\"/us/usc/t16/s2601\">16 U.S.C. 2601</ref> et seq.),
