L. 109–58, title XII, § 1234, Aug. 8, 2005, 119 Stat. 960.)","seq_in_title":7614,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149/schXII/ptB","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 149—","heading":"NATIONAL ENERGY POLICY AND PROGRAMS","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149/schXII","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER XII—","heading":"ELECTRICITY","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149/schXII/ptB","level":"part","num":"Part B—","heading":"Transmission Operation Improvements","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"idad8a481e-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432\"><num value=\"16432\">§ 16432.</num><heading> Study on the benefits of economic dispatch</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idad8a481f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Study</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Secretary, in coordination and consultation with the States, shall conduct a study on—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad8a4820-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> the procedures currently used by electric utilities to perform economic dispatch;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad8a4821-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> identifying possible revisions to those procedures to improve the ability of nonutility generation resources to offer their output for sale for the purpose of inclusion in economic dispatch; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idad8a4822-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> the potential benefits to residential, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers nationally and in each State if economic dispatch procedures were revised to improve the ability of nonutility generation resources to offer their output for inclusion in economic dispatch.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idad8a4823-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Definition</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The term “economic dispatch” when used in this section means the operation of generation facilities to produce energy at the lowest cost to reliably serve consumers, recognizing any operational limits of generation and transmission facilities.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idad8a4824-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16432/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Report to Congress and the States</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">Not later than 90 days after <date date=\"2005-08-08\">August 8, 2005</date>, and on a yearly basis following, the Secretary shall submit a report to Congress and the States on the results of the study conducted under subsection (a), including recommendations to Congress and the States for any suggested legislative or regulatory changes.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"idad8a6f35-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/109/58/tXII/s1234\">Pub.
