The Surgeon General may detail commissioned officers for duty aboard vessels of the Coast Guard or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.</continuation>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"ida4227121-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s253/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Health care for involuntarily separated officers and dependents</heading><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"ida4227122-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s253/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><chapeau> The Secretary may provide health care for an officer of the Regular or Reserve Corps <sup>1</sup> involuntarily separated from the Service, and for any dependent of such officer, if—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ida4227123-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s253/b/1/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> the officer or dependent was receiving health care at the expense of the Service at the time of separation; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ida4227124-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s253/b/1/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> the Secretary finds that the officer or dependent is unable to obtain appropriate insurance for the conditions for which the officer or dependent was receiving health care.</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"ida4227125-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s253/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> Health care may be provided under paragraph (1) for a period of not more than one year from the date of separation of the officer from the Service.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"ida4227126-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s253/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Examination of personnel of Service assigned to Coast Guard or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Service shall provide all services referred to in subsection (a) required by the Coast Guard or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and shall perform all duties prescribed by statute in connection with the examinations to determine physical or mental condition for purposes of appointment, enlistment, and reenlistment, promotion and retirement, and officers of the Service assigned to duty on Coast Guard or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration vessels may extend aid to the crews of American vessels engaged in deep-sea fishing.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"ida4229837-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\">(<ref href=\"/us/act/1944-07-01/ch373\">July 1, 1944, ch. 373</ref>, title III, § 326, <ref href=\"/us/stat/58/697\">58 Stat. 697</ref>; <ref href=\"/us/act/1956-06-07/ch374/s306/3\">June 7, 1956, ch. 374, § 306(3)</ref>, <ref href=\"/us/stat/70/254\">70 Stat. 254</ref>; <ref href=\"/us/pl/86/415/s5/d\">Pub.
