<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Director of the National Institutes of Health shall, as appropriate, encourage efforts to improve research related to the health of sexual and gender minority populations, including by—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id885b5186-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s283p/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> facilitating increased participation of sexual and gender minority populations in clinical research supported by the National Institutes of Health, and reporting on such participation, as applicable;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id885b7897-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s283p/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> facilitating the development of valid and reliable methods for research relevant to sexual and gender minority populations; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id885b7898-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s283p/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> addressing methodological challenges.</content>

</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="2">“(2)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">National academy of medicine recommendations</inline>.—</heading><content>In developing the measures described in paragraph (1)(A), the Secretary shall take into account recommendations made by the National Academy of Medicine.”</content>
