<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="ida4f7ea51-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j"><num value="294j">§ 294j.</num><heading> Demonstration program to integrate quality improvement and patient safety training into clinical education of health professionals</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea52-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary may award grants to eligible entities or consortia under this section to carry out demonstration projects to develop and implement academic curricula that integrates <ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002254">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002254"><num>1</num> So in original. Probably should be “integrate”.</note> quality improvement and patient safety in the clinical education of health professionals. Such awards shall be made on a competitive basis and pursuant to peer review.</p>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea53-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Eligibility</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">To be eligible to receive a grant under subsection (a), an entity or consortium shall—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f7ea54-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> submit to the Secretary an application at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Secretary may require;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f7ea55-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> be or include—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea56-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> a health professions school;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea57-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> a school of public health;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea58-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> a school of social work;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea59-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> a school of nursing;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea5a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> a school of pharmacy;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea5b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/F"><num value="F">(F)</num><content> an institution with a graduate medical education program; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f7ea5c-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/2/G"><num value="G">(G)</num><content> a school of health care administration;</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f7ea5d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> collaborate in the development of curricula described in subsection (a) with an organization that accredits such school or institution;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f7ea5e-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> provide for the collection of data regarding the effectiveness of the demonstration project; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f7ea5f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/b/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> provide matching funds in accordance with subsection (c).</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea60-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Matching funds</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea61-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/c/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Secretary may award a grant to an entity or consortium under this section only if the entity or consortium agrees to make available non-Federal contributions toward the costs of the program to be funded under the grant in an amount that is not less than $1 for each $5 of Federal funds provided under the grant.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea62-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/c/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Determination of amount contributed</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">Non-Federal contributions under paragraph (1) may be in cash or in-kind, fairly evaluated, including equipment or services. Amounts provided by the Federal Government, or services assisted or subsidized to any significant extent by the Federal Government, may not be included in determining the amount of such contributions.</p>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea63-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/d"><num value="d" class="bold">(d)</num><heading class="bold"> Evaluation</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary shall take such action as may be necessary to evaluate the projects funded under this section and publish, make publicly available, and disseminate the results of such evaluations on as wide a basis as is practicable.</p>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f7ea64-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/e"><num value="e" class="bold">(e)</num><heading class="bold"> Reports</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Not later than 2 years after <date date="2010-03-23">March 23, 2010</date>, and annually thereafter, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and the Committee on Finance of the Senate and the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives a report that—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f81075-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/e/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> describes the specific projects supported under this section; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f81076-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294j/e/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> contains recommendations for Congress based on the evaluation conducted under subsection (d).</content>
