<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="ida4f885ee-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n"><num value="294n">§ 294n.</num><heading> Health professions workforce information and analysis</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f885ef-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Purpose</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">It is the purpose of this section to—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f885f0-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> provide for the development of information describing the health professions workforce and the analysis of workforce related issues; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida4f885f1-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> provide necessary information for decision-making regarding future directions in health professions and nursing programs in response to societal and professional needs.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f885f2-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> National Center for Health Care Workforce Analysis</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f885f3-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> Establishment</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Secretary shall establish the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis (referred to in this section as the “National Center”).</p>
</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f885f4-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Purposes</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The National Center, in coordination to the extent practicable with the National Health Care Workforce Commission (established in <ref href="/us/usc/t42/s294q">section 294q of this title</ref>), and relevant regional and State centers and agencies, shall—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f885f5-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> provide for the development of information describing and analyzing the health care workforce and workforce related issues;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f885f6-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> carry out the activities under <ref href="/us/usc/t42/s295k/a">section 295k(a) of this title</ref>;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f885f7-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> annually evaluate programs under this subchapter;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad08-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/2/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> develop and publish performance measures and benchmarks for programs under this subchapter; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad09-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/2/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> establish, maintain, and publicize a national Internet registry of each grant awarded under this subchapter and a database to collect data from longitudinal evaluations (as described in subsection (d)(2)) on performance measures (as developed under sections 293<i>l</i>(d)(3), 294f(d)(3), and 294<i>o</i>(a)(3) of this title).</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad0a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/3"><num value="3" class="bold">(3)</num><heading class="bold"> Collaboration and data sharing</heading><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I18" class="indent4 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad0b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/3/A"><num value="A" class="bold">(A)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2">The National Center shall collaborate with Federal agencies and relevant professional and educational organizations or societies for the purpose of linking data regarding grants awarded under this subchapter.</p>

</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I18" class="indent4 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad0c-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/b/3/B"><num value="B" class="bold">(B)</num><heading class="bold"> Contracts for health workforce analysis</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2">For the purpose of carrying out the activities described in subparagraph (A), the National Center may enter into contracts with relevant professional and educational organizations or societies.</p>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad0d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> State and regional Centers for Health Workforce Analysis</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad0e-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Secretary shall award grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities for purposes of—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad0f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> collecting, analyzing, and reporting data regarding programs under this subchapter to the National Center and to the public; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad10-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> providing technical assistance to local and regional entities on the collection, analysis, and reporting of data.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad11-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Eligible entities</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">To be eligible for a grant or contract under this subsection, an entity shall—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad12-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> be a State, a State workforce investment board, a public health or health professions school, an academic health center, or an appropriate public or private nonprofit entity; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad13-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/c/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> submit to the Secretary an application at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Secretary may require.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad14-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d"><num value="d" class="bold">(d)</num><heading class="bold"> Increase in grants for longitudinal evaluations</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad15-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Secretary shall increase the amount awarded to an eligible entity under this subchapter for a longitudinal evaluation of individuals who have received education, training, or financial assistance from programs under this subchapter.</p>
</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad16-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Capability</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">A longitudinal evaluation shall be capable of—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad17-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> studying practice patterns; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="ida4f8ad18-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> collecting and reporting data on performance measures developed under sections 293<i>l</i>(d)(3), 294f(d)(3), and 294<i>o</i>(a)(3) of this title.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad19-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d/3"><num value="3" class="bold">(3)</num><heading class="bold"> Guidelines</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">A longitudinal evaluation shall comply with guidelines issued under sections 293<i>l</i>(d)(4), 294f(d)(4), and 294<i>o</i>(a)(4) of this title.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad1a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/d/4"><num value="4" class="bold">(4)</num><heading class="bold"> Eligible entities</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">To be eligible to obtain an increase under this section, an entity shall be a recipient of a grant or contract under this subchapter.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad1b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/e"><num value="e" class="bold">(e)</num><heading class="bold"> Authorization of appropriations</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad1c-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/e/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I18" class="indent4 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad1d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/e/1/A"><num value="A" class="bold">(A)</num><heading class="bold"> National Center</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2">To carry out subsection (b), there are authorized to be appropriated $5,663,000 for each of fiscal years 2021 through 2025.</p>

<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I18" class="indent4 firstIndent-2" id="ida4f8ad1f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s294n/e/1/C"><num value="C" class="bold">(C)</num><heading class="bold"> Grants for longitudinal evaluations</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2">To carry out subsection (d), there are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary for fiscal years 2010 through 2014.</p>

L. 111–148, title V, § 5103(b)</ref>, <date date="2010-03-23">Mar. 23, 2010</date>, <ref href="/us/stat/124/605">124 Stat. 605</ref>, provided that: <quotedContent origin="/us/pl/111/148/tV/s5103/b">“Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act [<date date="2010-03-23">Mar. 23, 2010</date>], the responsibilities and resources of the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis, as in effect on the date before the date of enactment of this Act, shall be transferred to the National Center for Health Care Workforce Analysis established under section 761 of the Public Health Service Act [<ref href="/us/usc/t42/s294n">42 U.S.C. 294n</ref>], as amended by subsection (a).”</quotedContent>
