<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="ida5317056-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d"><num value="300d">§ 300d.</num><heading> Establishment</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="ida5317057-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary shall, with respect to trauma care—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida5317058-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> conduct and support research, training, evaluations, and demonstration projects;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida5317059-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> foster the development of appropriate, modern systems of such care through the sharing of information among agencies and individuals involved in the study and provision of such care;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida531705a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> collect, compile, and disseminate information on the achievements of, and problems experienced by, State and local agencies and private entities in providing trauma care and emergency medical services and, in so doing, give special consideration to the unique needs of rural areas;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida531705b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> provide to State and local agencies technical assistance to enhance each State’s capability to develop, implement, and sustain the trauma care component of each State’s plan for the provision of emergency medical services;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida531705c-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> sponsor workshops and conferences; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ida531976d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s300d/a/6"><num value="6">(6)</num><content> promote the collection and categorization of trauma data in a consistent and standardized manner.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1"><num value="6">“(6)</num><content> many trauma centers have incurred substantial uncompensated costs in providing trauma care, and such costs have caused many such centers to cease participation in trauma care systems; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1"><num value="7">“(7)</num><content> the number of incidents of physical trauma in the United States is a serious medical and social problem, and the number of deaths resulting from such incidents can be substantially reduced by improving the trauma-care components of the systems for the provision of emergency medical services in the United States.”</content>
