security overvaluation</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">A person that makes any statement that the person knows to be false, or willfully overvalues any security, for the purpose of—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad4ebb9-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> obtaining for the person or for any applicant any financial assistance under this chapter or any extension of the assistance by renewal, deferment, or action, or by any other means, or the acceptance, release, or substitution of security for the assistance;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad4ebba-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> influencing in any manner the action of the Secretary; or</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad4ebbb-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> obtaining money, property, or any thing of value, under this chapter;</content>\n</paragraph>\n\n<continuation style=\"-uslm-lc:I10\" class=\"indent0 firstIndent0\">shall be fined under title 18, imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.</continuation>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idaad512cc-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Embezzlement and fraud-related crimes</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">A person that is connected in any capacity with the Secretary in the administration of this chapter and that—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad512cd-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> embezzles, abstracts, purloins, or willfully misapplies any funds, securities, or other thing of value, that is pledged or otherwise entrusted to the person;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad512ce-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><chapeau> with intent to defraud the Secretary or any other person or entity, or to deceive any officer, auditor, or examiner—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idaad512cf-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> makes any false entry in any book, report, or statement of or to the Secretary; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idaad512d0-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> without being duly authorized, draws any order or issue, puts forth, or assigns any note, debenture, bond, or other obligation, or draft, bill of exchange, mortgage, judgment, or decree thereof;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad512d1-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> with intent to defraud, participates or shares in or receives directly or indirectly any money, profit, property, or benefit through any transaction, loan, grant, commission, contract, or any other act of the Secretary; or</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idaad512d2-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s3215/b/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> gives any unauthorized information concerning any future action or plan of the Secretary that might affect the value of securities, or having such knowledge invests or speculates, directly or indirectly, in the securities or property of any company or corporation receiving loans, grants, or other assistance from the Secretary;</content>\n</paragraph>\n\n<continuation style=\"-uslm-lc:I10\" class=\"indent0 firstIndent0\">shall be fined under title 18, imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.</continuation>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"idaad512d3-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/89/136/tVI/s605\">Pub.
