L. 102–550, title X, § 1052, Oct. 28, 1992, 106 Stat. 3925.)","seq_in_title":4210,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch63A/schIII/pt1","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch63A","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 63A—","heading":"RESIDENTIAL LEAD-BASED PAINT HAZARD REDUCTION","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch63A/schIII","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER III—","heading":"RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch63A/schIII/pt1","level":"part","num":"Part 1—","heading":"HUD Research","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id8da1dfea-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a\"><num value=\"4854a\">§ 4854a.</num><heading> Testing technologies</heading>\n<chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Secretary, in cooperation with other Federal agencies, shall conduct research to—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da1dfeb-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> develop improved methods for evaluating lead-based paint hazards in housing;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da1dfec-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> develop improved methods for reducing lead-based paint hazards in housing;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da206fd-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> develop improved methods for measuring lead in paint films, dust, and soil samples;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da206fe-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> establish performance standards for various detection methods, including spot test kits;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da206ff-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/5\"><num value=\"5\">(5)</num><content> establish performance standards for lead-based paint hazard reduction methods, including the use of encapsulants;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da20700-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/6\"><num value=\"6\">(6)</num><content> establish appropriate cleanup standards;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da20701-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/7\"><num value=\"7\">(7)</num><content> evaluate the efficacy of interim controls in various hazard situations;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da20702-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/8\"><num value=\"8\">(8)</num><content> evaluate the relative performance of various abatement techniques;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da20703-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/9\"><num value=\"9\">(9)</num><content> evaluate the long-term cost-effectiveness of interim control and abatement strategies; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8da20704-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s4854a/10\"><num value=\"10\">(10)</num><content> assess the effectiveness of hazard evaluation and reduction activities funded by this chapter.</content>\n</paragraph>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id8da20705-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/102/550/tX/s1052\">Pub.
