The word “and” probably should not appear.</note> American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and, for the purposes of subchapter II of this chapter, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60b10a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> the term “nonprofit” as applied to any agency, institution, or organization means an agency, institution, or organization which is, or is owned and operated by, one or more corporations or associations no part of the net earnings of which inures, or may lawfully inure, to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60b10b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> the term “poor” or “low-income” persons, individuals, or volunteers means such individuals whose incomes fall at or below the poverty line as set forth in section 625 of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, as amended by <ref href=\"/us/pl/92/424\">Public Law 92–424</ref> (<ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s2971d\">42 U.S.C. 2971d</ref>): <ref class=\"footnoteRef\" idref=\"fn003314\">2</ref><note type=\"footnote\" id=\"fn003314\"><num>2</num> See References in Text note below.</note> <i>Provided</i>, That in determining who is “poor” or “low-income”, the Director shall take into consideration existing poverty guidelines as appropriate to local situations;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60b10c-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/5\"><num value=\"5\">(5)</num><content> the terms “public agencies or organizations” and “Federal, State, or local agencies” shall include any Indian tribe, band, nation, or other organized group or community (including any Alaskan native village or regional village corporation as defined in or established pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act [<ref href=\"/us/usc/t43/s1601\">43 U.S.C. 1601</ref> et seq.]) which is recognized by the United States or the State in which it resides as eligible for special programs and services provided to Indians because of their status as Indians;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60b10d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/6\"><num value=\"6\">(6)</num><content> the term “poverty line for a single individual” means such poverty line as established by the Director of the Office of Management and Budget in accordance with <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s9902/2\">section 9902(2) of this title</ref>;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60b10e-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/7\"><num value=\"7\">(7)</num><content> the term “Corporation” means the Corporation for National and Community Service established under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s12651\">section 12651 of this title</ref>;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60b10f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/8\"><num value=\"8\">(8)</num><content> the term “foster grandparent” means a volunteer in the Foster Grandparent Program;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d820-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/9\"><num value=\"9\">(9)</num><content> the term “Foster Grandparent Program” means the program established under part B of subchapter II;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d821-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/10\"><num value=\"10\">(10)</num><content> except as provided in <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s5057\">section 5057 of this title</ref>, the term “individual with a disability” has the meaning given the term in <ref href=\"/us/usc/t29/s705/20/B\">section 705(20)(B) of title 29</ref>;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d822-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/11\"><num value=\"11\">(11)</num><content> the term “Inspector General” means the Inspector General of the Corporation;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d823-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/12\"><num value=\"12\">(12)</num><content> the term “national senior volunteer” means a volunteer in the National Senior Service Corps;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d824-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/13\"><num value=\"13\">(13)</num><content> the term “National Senior Service Corps” means the programs established under parts A, B, C, and E of subchapter II;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d825-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/14\"><num value=\"14\">(14)</num><content> the term “Retired and Senior Volunteer Program” means the program established under part A of subchapter II;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d826-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/15\"><num value=\"15\">(15)</num><content> the term “retired or senior volunteer” means a volunteer in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d827-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/16\"><num value=\"16\">(16)</num><content> the term “senior companion” means a volunteer in the Senior Companion Program;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d828-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/17\"><num value=\"17\">(17)</num><content> the term “Senior Companion Program” means the program established under part C of subchapter II;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d829-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/18\"><num value=\"18\">(18)</num><content> the terms “VISTA” and “Volunteers in Service to America” mean the program established under part A of subchapter I;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d82a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/19\"><num value=\"19\">(19)</num><content> the term “VISTA volunteer” means a volunteer in VISTA; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idab60d82b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5061/20\"><num value=\"20\">(20)</num><content> the term “authorizing committees” means the Committee on Education and Labor of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and
