D, § 1204(a), Oct. 5, 2018, 132 Stat. 3438.)","seq_in_title":4403,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch68/schIV","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch68","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 68—","heading":"DISASTER RELIEF","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch68/schIV","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER IV—","heading":"MAJOR DISASTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id8dc6cc96-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5187\"><num value=\"5187\">§ 5187.</num><heading> Fire management assistance</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8dc6cc97-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5187/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> In general</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The President is authorized to provide assistance, including grants, equipment, supplies, and personnel, to any State or local government for the mitigation, management, and control of any fire on public or private forest land or grassland that threatens such destruction as would constitute a major disaster.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8dc6cc98-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5187/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Coordination with State and tribal departments of forestry</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In providing assistance under this section, the President shall coordinate with State and tribal departments of forestry.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8dc6cc99-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5187/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Essential assistance</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In providing assistance under this section, the President may use the authority provided under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s5170b\">section 5170b of this title</ref>.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8dc6cc9a-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5187/d\"><num value=\"d\" class=\"bold\">(d)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Hazard mitigation assistance</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">Whether or not a major disaster is declared, the President may provide hazard mitigation assistance in accordance with <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s5170c\">section 5170c of this title</ref> in any area affected by a fire for which assistance was provided under this section.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8dc6cc9b-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s5187/e\"><num value=\"e\" class=\"bold\">(e)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Rules and regulations</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The President shall prescribe such rules and regulations as are necessary to carry out this section.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id8dc6cc9c-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/93/288/tIV/s420\">Pub.
