<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="idac1952b3-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e"><num value="7144e">§ 7144e.</num><heading> Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idac1952b4-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Establishment</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">There is established within the Department an Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs (referred to in this section as the “Office”). The Office shall be headed by a Director, who shall be appointed by the Secretary and compensated at a rate equal to that of level IV of the Executive Schedule under <ref href="/us/usc/t5/s5315">section 5315 of title 5</ref>.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idac1979c5-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Duties of Director</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Director, in accordance with Federal policies promoting Indian self-determination and the purposes of this chapter, shall provide, direct, foster, coordinate, and implement energy planning, education, management, conservation, and delivery programs of the Department that—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idac1979c6-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> promote Indian tribal energy development, efficiency, and use;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idac1979c7-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> reduce or stabilize energy costs;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idac1979c8-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> enhance and strengthen Indian tribal energy and economic infrastructure relating to natural resource development and electrification; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idac1979c9-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7144e/b/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> bring electrical power and service to Indian land and the homes of tribal members located on Indian lands or acquired, constructed, or improved (in whole or in part) with Federal funds.</content>
