<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id8eb8a6a6-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922"><num value="7922">§ 7922.</num><heading> Termination of authority of Secretary</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id8eb8a6a7-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Exceptions; “byproduct material” defined</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id8eb8a6a8-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> The authority of the Secretary to perform remedial action under this subchapter shall terminate on <date date="1998-09-30">September 30, 1998</date>, except that—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8eb8a6a9-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922/a/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> the authority of the Secretary to perform groundwater restoration activities under this subchapter is without limitation, and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8eb8a6aa-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922/a/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> the Secretary may continue operation of the disposal site in Mesa County, Colorado (known as the Cheney disposal cell) for receiving and disposing of residual radioactive material from processing sites and of byproduct material from property in the vicinity of the uranium milling site located in Monticello, Utah, until the Cheney disposal cell has been filled to the capacity for which it was designed, or <date date="2023-09-30">September 30, 2023</date>, whichever comes first.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id8eb8a6ab-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> For purposes of this subsection, the term “byproduct material” has the meaning given that term in <ref href="/us/usc/t42/s2014/e/2">section 2014(e)(2) of this title</ref>.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id8eb8a6ac-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s7922/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Authorization of appropriations</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The amounts authorized to be appropriated to carry out the purposes of this subchapter by the Secretary, the Administrator, the Commission, and the Secretary of the Interior shall not exceed such amounts as are established in annual authorization Acts for fiscal year 1979 and each fiscal year thereafter applicable to the Department of Energy. Any sums appropriated for the purposes of this subchapter shall be available until expended.</p>
