<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id922654bd-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101"><num value="33101">§ 33101.</num><heading> Definitions</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In this chapter—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id922654be-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> “chop shop” means a building, lot, facility, or other structure or premise at which at least one person engages in receiving, concealing, destroying, disassembling, dismantling, reassembling, or storing a passenger motor vehicle or passenger motor vehicle part that has been unlawfully obtained—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654bf-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> to alter, counterfeit, deface, destroy, disguise, falsify, forge, obliterate, or remove the identity of the vehicle or part, including the vehicle identification number or a derivative of that number; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654c0-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> to distribute, sell, or dispose of the vehicle or part in interstate or foreign commerce.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id922654c1-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> “covered major part” means a major part selected under <ref href="/us/usc/t49/s33104">section 33104 of this title</ref> for coverage by the vehicle theft prevention standard prescribed under section 33102 or 33103 of this title.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id922654c2-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> “existing line” means a line introduced into commerce before <date date="1990-01-01">January 1, 1990</date>.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id922654c3-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> “first purchaser” means the person making the first purchase other than for resale.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id922654c4-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> “line” means a name that a manufacturer of motor vehicles applies to a group of motor vehicle models of the same make that have the same body or chassis, or otherwise are similar in construction or design.</content>

</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654c7-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> the transmission;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654c8-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> each door to the passenger compartment;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654c9-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> the hood;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654ca-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> the grille;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654cb-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/F"><num value="F">(F)</num><content> each bumper;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654cc-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/G"><num value="G">(G)</num><content> each front fender;</content>
</subparagraph>

</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654ce-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/I"><num value="I">(I)</num><content> each rear quarter panel;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654cf-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/J"><num value="J">(J)</num><content> the trunk floor pan;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654d0-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/K"><num value="K">(K)</num><content> the frame or, for a unitized body, the supporting structure serving as the frame; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654d1-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/6/L"><num value="L">(L)</num><content> any other part of a passenger motor vehicle that the Secretary of Transportation by regulation specifies as comparable in design or function to any of the parts listed in subclauses (A)–(K) of this clause.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id922654d2-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/7"><num value="7">(7)</num><chapeau> “major replacement part” means a major part that is—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654d3-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/7/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> an original major part in or on a completed motor vehicle and customized or modified after manufacture of the vehicle but before the time of its delivery to the first purchaser; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id922654d4-3691-11e3-925d-b2b792679ef3" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33101/7/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> not installed in or on a motor vehicle at the time of its delivery to the first purchaser and the equitable or legal title to the vehicle has not been transferred to a first purchaser.</content>

</paragraph>
