<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id4902c417-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102"><num value="33102">§ 33102.</num><heading> Theft prevention standard for high theft lines</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c418-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">General</inline>.—</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c419-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> The Secretary of Transportation by regulation shall prescribe a vehicle theft prevention standard that conforms to the requirements of this chapter. The standard shall apply to—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id4902c41a-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> covered major parts that manufacturers install in passenger motor vehicles in lines designated under <ref href="/us/usc/t49/s33104">section 33104 of this title</ref> as high theft lines; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id4902c41b-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> major replacement parts for the major parts described in clause (A) of this paragraph.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c41c-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> The standard may apply only to—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id4902c41d-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> major parts that manufacturers install in passenger motor vehicles having a model year designation later than the calendar year in which the standard takes effect; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id4902c41e-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/a/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> major replacement parts manufactured after the standard takes effect.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c41f-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Standard Requirements</inline>.—</heading><content>The standard shall be practicable and provide relevant objective criteria.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c420-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Limitations on Major Part and Replacement Part Standards</inline>.—</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c421-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/c/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> For a major part installed by the manufacturer of the motor vehicle, the standard may not require a part to have more than one identification.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c422-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/c/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> For a major replacement part, the standard may not require—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id4902c423-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/c/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> identification of a part not designed as a replacement for a major part required to be identified under the standard; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id4902c424-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/c/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> the inscribing or affixing of identification except a symbol identifying the manufacturer and a common symbol identifying the part as a major replacement part.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id4902c425-9222-11e6-b436-b6f01964ba54" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s33102/d"><num value="d">(d)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Records and Reports</inline>.—</heading><content>This chapter does not authorize the Secretary to require a person to keep records or make reports, except as provided in sections 33104(c), 33106(c), 33108(a), and 33112 <ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002120">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002120"><num>1</num> See References in Text note below.</note> of this title.</content>
