<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id3572e158-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301"><num value="44301">§ 44301.</num><heading> Definitions</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In this chapter—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3572e159-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> “aircraft manufacturer” means any company or other business entity, the majority ownership and control of which is by United States citizens, that manufactures aircraft or aircraft engines.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3572e15a-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> “American aircraft” means—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id3572e15b-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> a civil aircraft of the United States; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id3572e15c-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><chapeau> an aircraft owned or chartered by, or made available to—</chapeau><clause style="-uslm-lc:I14" class="indent3" id="id3572e15d-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/2/B/i"><num value="i">(i)</num><content> the United States Government; or</content>
</clause>
<clause style="-uslm-lc:I14" class="indent3" id="id3572e15e-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/2/B/ii"><num value="ii">(ii)</num><content> a State, the District of Columbia, a territory or possession of the United States, or a political subdivision of the State, territory, or possession.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3572e15f-ec39-11e5-b01e-e2270cb35279" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s44301/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> “insurance carrier” means a person authorized to do aviation insurance business in a State, including a mutual or stock insurance company and a reciprocal insurance association.</content>
