<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In this subchapter—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8994fb93-a3d3-11e9-a7cd-8d0abbe94c89" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s47501/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> “airport” means a public-use airport as defined in <ref href="/us/usc/t49/s47102">section 47102 of this title</ref>.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8994fb94-a3d3-11e9-a7cd-8d0abbe94c89" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s47501/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> “airport operator” means—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id8994fb95-a3d3-11e9-a7cd-8d0abbe94c89" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s47501/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> for an airport serving air carriers that have certificates from the Secretary of Transportation, any person holding an airport operating certificate issued under <ref href="/us/usc/t49/s44706">section 44706 of this title</ref>; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id8994fb96-a3d3-11e9-a7cd-8d0abbe94c89" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s47501/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> for any other airport, the person operating the airport.</content>

</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1"><num value="3">“(3)</num><content> the impacts of aircraft noise on communities, including schools; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1"><num value="4">“(4)</num><content> the noise assessment practices of the Federal Aviation Administration and whether such practices fairly and accurately reflect the burden of noise on communities.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="c">“(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Report</inline>.—</heading><content>Not later than 18 months after the date of the agreement entered into under subsection (a), the National Academy of Sciences shall transmit to the Secretary a report on the results of the study. Upon receipt of the report, the Secretary shall transmit a copy of the report to the appropriate committees of Congress.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="d">“(d)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Authorization of Appropriations</inline>.—</heading><content>There is authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary to carry out this section.”</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="b">“(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Focus</inline>.—</heading><content>In conducting the study, the Secretary shall focus on air traffic control procedures to address helicopter noise problems and shall take into account the needs of law enforcement.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="c">“(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Consideration of Views</inline>.—</heading><content>In conducting the study, the Secretary shall consider the views of representatives of the helicopter industry and organizations with an interest in reducing nonmilitary helicopter noise.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="d">“(d)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Report</inline>.—</heading><content>Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act [<date date="2000-04-05">Apr. 5, 2000</date>], the Secretary shall transmit to Congress a report on the results of the study conducted under this section.”</content>
