<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" id="idbe16167b-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301"><num value="5301">§ 5301.</num><heading> Policies and purposes</heading><subsection class="indent0" id="idbe16167c-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> Declaration of Policy.—</heading><content>It is in the interest of the United States, including the economic interest of the United States, to foster the development and revitalization of public transportation systems with the cooperation of both public transportation companies and private companies engaged in public transportation.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection class="indent0" id="idbe16167d-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> General Purposes.—</heading><chapeau>The purposes of this chapter are to—</chapeau><paragraph class="indent1" id="idbe16167e-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> provide funding to support public transportation;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph class="indent1" id="idbe16167f-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> improve the development and delivery of capital projects;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph class="indent1" id="idbe161680-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> establish standards for the state of good repair of public transportation infrastructure and vehicles;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph class="indent1" id="idbe161681-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> promote continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive planning that improves the performance of the transportation network;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph class="indent1" id="idbe161682-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> establish a technical assistance program to assist recipients under this chapter to more effectively and efficiently provide public transportation service;</content>

<paragraph class="indent1" id="idbe163d93-f63e-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d" identifier="/us/usc/t49/s5301/b/6"><num value="6">(6)</num><content> continue Federal support for public transportation providers to deliver high quality service to all users, including individuals with disabilities, seniors, and individuals who depend on public transportation;</content>
