<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">An agency may advance, through the proper disbursing official, to an employee entitled to per diem or mileage allowances under this subchapter, a sum considered advisable with regard to the character and probable duration of the travel to be performed. A sum advanced and not used for allowable travel expenses is recoverable from the employee or his estate by—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id50765d4d-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289" identifier="/us/usc/t5/s5705/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> setoff against accrued pay, retirement credit, or other amount due the employee;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id50765d4e-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289" identifier="/us/usc/t5/s5705/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> deduction from an amount due from the United States; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id50765d4f-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289" identifier="/us/usc/t5/s5705/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> such other method as is provided by law.</content>
