<p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Office of Personnel Management may, from time to time, by regulation adjust the maximum amount for the cost of uniforms and the maximum allowance for uniforms under section 5901.</p>

<note style="-uslm-lc:I74" topic="amendments" id="id507ffb3e-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289"><heading class="centered smallCaps">Amendments</heading><p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">1990—<ref href="/us/pl/101/509">Pub. L. 101–509</ref> amended section generally. Prior to amendment, section read as follows: “Notwithstanding <ref href="/us/usc/t5/s5901">section 5901 of this title</ref>, each of the respective maximum uniform allowances in effect on <date date="1966-04-01">April 1, 1966</date>, for the respective categories of employees to whom uniform allowances are paid under <ref href="/us/usc/t5/s5901">section 5901 of this title</ref> are increased, subject to the maximum allowance authorized by <ref href="/us/usc/t5/s5901">section 5901 of this title</ref>, as follows:</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1">“(1) If the maximum uniform allowance is $100 or more, it is increased by 25 percent.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1">“(2) If the maximum uniform allowance is $75 or more but less than $100, it is increased by 30 percent.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1">“(3) If the maximum uniform allowance is $50 or more but less than $75, it is increased by 35 percent.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1">“(4) If the maximum uniform allowance is less than $50, it is increased by 40 percent.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I33" class="indent0 firstIndent0">The maximum uniform allowances, as in effect on <date date="1966-04-01">April 1, 1966</date>, and as increased by this section, may not be reduced.”</p>

L. 101–509</ref> effective on such date as the President shall determine, but not earlier than 90 days, and not later than 180 days, after <date date="1990-11-05">Nov. 5, 1990</date>, see section 529 [title III, § 305] of <ref href="/us/pl/101/509">Pub.
