<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id23c3f3fa-a6d2-11ec-b4e8-fd12796c7e76" identifier="/us/usc/t5/s7501"><num value="7501">§ 7501.</num><heading> Definitions</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">For the purpose of this subchapter—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id23c3f3fb-a6d2-11ec-b4e8-fd12796c7e76" identifier="/us/usc/t5/s7501/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> “employee” means an individual in the competitive service who is not serving a probationary or trial period under an initial appointment or, except as provided in <ref href="/us/usc/t10/s1599e">section 1599e of title 10</ref>, who has completed 1 year of current continuous employment in the same or similar positions under other than a temporary appointment limited to 1 year or less; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id23c3f3fc-a6d2-11ec-b4e8-fd12796c7e76" identifier="/us/usc/t5/s7501/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> “suspension” means the placing of an employee, for disciplinary reasons, in a temporary status without duties and pay.</content>
