and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id50b45128-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> an applicant for enrollment as a volunteer or volunteer leader during a period of training under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t22/s2507/a\">section 2507(a) of title 22</ref> before enrollment.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id50b45129-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><content> Subject to the provisions of this section, this subchapter applies to a volunteer, except that entitlement to disability compensation payments does not commence until the day after the date of termination of his service as a volunteer.</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id50b4512a-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c\"><num value=\"c\">(c)</num><chapeau> For the purpose of this subchapter—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id50b4512b-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> a volunteer is deemed receiving monthly pay at the minimum rate for GS–7;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id50b4512c-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> a volunteer leader referred to by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t22/s2505\">section 2505 of title 22</ref>, or a volunteer with one or more minor children as defined in <ref href=\"/us/usc/t22/s2504\">section 2504 of title 22</ref>, is deemed receiving monthly pay at the minimum rate for GS–11;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id50b4512d-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><chapeau> an injury suffered by a volunteer when he is outside the several States and the District of Columbia is deemed proximately caused by his employment, unless the injury or disease is—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id50b4512e-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/3/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> caused by willful misconduct of the volunteer;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id50b4512f-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/3/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> caused by the volunteer’s intention to bring about the injury or death of himself or of another; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id50b45130-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/3/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><content> proximately caused by the intoxication of the injured volunteer; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id50b45131-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><chapeau> the period of service of an individual as a volunteer includes—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id50b45132-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/4/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> any period of training under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t22/s2507/a\">section 2507(a) of title 22</ref> before enrollment as a volunteer; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id50b45133-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t5/s8142/c/4/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> the period between enrollment as a volunteer and the termination of service as a volunteer by the President or by death or resignation.</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id50b45134-f67c-11e5-87ee-a95dc0577289\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/89/554\">Pub.
