<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id59d64539-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459"><num value="459">§ 459.</num><heading> Office of International Affairs</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id59d6453a-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Establishment</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">There is established within the Office of the Secretary an Office of International Affairs. The Office shall be headed by a Director, who shall be a senior official appointed by the Secretary.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id59d6453b-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Duties of the Director</heading><chapeau>The Director shall have the following duties:</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id59d6453c-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> To promote information and education exchange with nations friendly to the United States in order to promote sharing of best practices and technologies relating to homeland security. Such exchange shall include the following:</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id59d6453d-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> Exchange of information on research and development on homeland security technologies.</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id59d6453e-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> Joint training exercises of first responders.</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id59d6453f-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/1/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> Exchange of expertise on terrorism prevention, response, and crisis management.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id59d64540-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> To identify areas for homeland security information and training exchange where the United States has a demonstrated weakness and another friendly nation or nations have a demonstrated expertise.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id59d64541-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> To plan and undertake international conferences, exchange programs, and training activities.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id59d64542-f67c-11e5-b96b-f3e1d2b9a904" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s459/b/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> To manage international activities within the Department in coordination with other Federal officials with responsibility for counter-terrorism matters.</content>
