<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id1aedcf08-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747"><num value="747">§ 747.</num><heading> Equipment and training standards</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id1aedcf09-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Equipment standards</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id1aedcf0a-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Administrator, in coordination with the heads of appropriate Federal agencies and the National Advisory Council, shall support the development, promulgation, and updating, as necessary, of national voluntary consensus standards for the performance, use, and validation of equipment used by Federal, State, local, and tribal governments and nongovernmental emergency response providers.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id1aedcf0b-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Requirements</heading><chapeau>The national voluntary consensus standards shall—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id1aedcf0c-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> be designed to achieve equipment and other capabilities consistent with the national preparedness goal, including the safety and health of emergency response providers;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id1aedcf0d-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> to the maximum extent practicable, be consistent with existing national voluntary consensus standards;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id1aedcf0e-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> take into account, as appropriate, threats that may not have been contemplated when the existing standards were developed; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id1aedcf0f-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/a/2/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> focus on maximizing operability, interoperability, interchangeability, durability, flexibility, efficiency, efficacy, portability, sustainability, and safety.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id1aedcf10-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Training standards</heading><chapeau>The Administrator shall—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id1aedcf11-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> support the development, promulgation, and regular updating, as necessary, of national voluntary consensus standards for training; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id1aedcf12-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> ensure that the training provided under the national training program is consistent with the standards.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id1aedcf13-a3d3-11e9-be6e-e752deae1f00" identifier="/us/usc/t6/s747/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Consultation with standards organizations</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In carrying out this section, the Administrator shall consult with representatives of relevant public and private sector national voluntary consensus standards development organizations.</p>
