<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In this chapter:</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cf4-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> Agricultural product</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “agricultural product” means an agricultural commodity, as determined by the Secretary, including a processed product of an agricultural commodity.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cf5-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Approval</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “approval” means the consent provided by the Secretary for a person to engage in an activity authorized by this chapter.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cf6-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/3"><num value="3" class="bold">(3)</num><heading class="bold"> Department</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “Department” means the Department of Agriculture.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cf7-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/4"><num value="4" class="bold">(4)</num><heading class="bold"> Electronic document</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “electronic document” means a document that is generated, sent, received, or stored by electronic, optical, or similar means, including electronic data interchange, electronic mail, telegram, telex, or telecopy.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cf8-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/5"><num value="5" class="bold">(5)</num><heading class="bold"> Electronic receipt</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “electronic receipt” means a receipt that is authorized by the Secretary to be issued or transmitted under this chapter in the form of an electronic document.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cf9-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/6"><num value="6" class="bold">(6)</num><heading class="bold"> Holder</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “holder” means a person that has possession in fact or by operation of law of a receipt or any electronic document.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cfa-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/7"><num value="7" class="bold">(7)</num><heading class="bold"> Person</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “person” means—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id343d4cfb-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/7/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> a person (as defined in <ref href="/us/usc/t1/s1">section 1 of title 1</ref>);</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id343d4cfc-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/7/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> a State; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id343d4cfd-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/7/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> a political subdivision of a State.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cfe-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/8"><num value="8" class="bold">(8)</num><heading class="bold"> Receipt</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “receipt” means a warehouse receipt issued in accordance with this chapter, including an electronic receipt.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4cff-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/9"><num value="9" class="bold">(9)</num><heading class="bold"> Secretary</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “Secretary” means the Secretary of Agriculture.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id343d4d00-7fa0-11ec-94a7-ad9af92efa12" identifier="/us/usc/t7/s241/10"><num value="10" class="bold">(10)</num><heading class="bold"> Warehouse</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “warehouse” means a structure or other approved storage facility, as determined by the Secretary, in which any agricultural product may be stored or handled for the purposes of interstate or foreign commerce.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><num value="c">“(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Effectiveness of Existing Act</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>The United States Warehouse Act (<ref href="/us/usc/t7/s241">7 U.S.C. 241</ref> et seq.) (as it existed before the amendment made by section 201) shall be effective until the earlier of—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1"><num value="1">“(1)</num><content> the date on which final regulations are promulgated under subsection (b); or</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1"><num value="2">“(2)</num><content> <date date="2001-08-01">August 1, 2001</date>.”</content>
